Missions Committee
This committee is responsible for the outreach program of the church through the communication media and through mission study and projects. It shall interpret the actions of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) to the Session and it shall interpret the love of God in our community, nation and world by assisting the congregation to make Christianity a relevant force beyond ourselves. The pastor shall work with this committee.
Local Missions
This subcommittee will be concerned with making relevant the witness of the church in this community, and may work cooperatively with other churches, community groups, and agencies on special projects. It will make suggestions to the Session concerning appropriate decisions and actions.
This subcommittee will provide a liaison with the Community Food Pantry. It is expected that other church committees and subcommittees that contribute funds or food items to the Food Pantry will inform the liaison person of said contributions.
From time-to-time, this subcommittee shall consider new areas of local mission in order to find new ways to serve Jesus Christ. Emphasis shall be placed on projects in which the congregation can be an active participant.
Special Ministries
This subcommittee will carry out a ministry of compassion by providing for specific needs which arise in the lives of persons within and outside the congregation in so far as funds allow.
Food Bank
The Food Bank Coordinator will represent the church as the sponsor for the Maryland Food Bank program. This person will be the liaison with the Maryland Food Bank office and will oversee the food distribution for food items received from the Maryland Food Bank.
Global Missions
This subcommittee is to investigate and recommend to the congregation ways we, as God's people in Cumberland, can be better acquainted with the mission efforts of God's people throughout the world. This will be accomplished by this subcommittee in the following ways:
(a) Mission education - the subcommittee plans mission events to introduce the congregation to the broad areas of mission that we support.
(b) Specific mission support - the subcommittee recommends projects on the General Assembly and levels where there can be two-way communication about mission projects. An effort is made to put faces with dollars in our mission giving.
(c) Denominational mission support - this subcommittee seeks to be an advocate for the mission efforts of the denomination on six continents, keeping abreast with current mission trends and trusts.
(d) Cumberland Presbyterian Hospital - keeping congregation and Session informed as to the progress and needs of the Cumberland Presbyterian Hospital in Kyungju, South Korea, and bring specific requests to the attention of the congregation.
